- - Julep | Diamond Mystery Box 2014 Review - -

Hi everyone!

I have barely left my bed in the last 24 hours because of a fever, but this morning I'm actually feeling well enough to edit a few pictures and compose this post for you guys. As promised a couple of times now, I finally have a review for the Julep Diamond Mystery Box!

This box, which Julep promised to contain a $150+ value, came out in November of 2014 and it cost $24.99 US. What's interesting is that Julep had a Diamond Mystery Box in 2013 as well, the review for which you can check out here

Let's see how the 2014 version compared...

* Please note that all of the prices are in US dollars. *

1 || Nail Polish || $14.00 (Non-Maven) / $11.20 (Maven) each

Left to Right / Bottom to Top:
Millie (Boho Glam) | V
intage indigo crème
Alex (Boho Glam) |
Regal purple microglitter
Michelle (Boho Glam)| Midnight, inky blue crème

Gayle (Classic with a Twist) | Deep aubergine crème

Chantel (Boho Glam) | Holographic gold diamond glitter top coat

Sky (It Girl) | Holographic silver diamond glitter top coat

In the same way that Geo and Antonia were promised to be in the 2013 Diamond Mystery Box, Chantel and Sky were the only guaranteed nail polishes in everyone's boxes this time around. I believe that out of the colours I got, the only repeats for me were Gayle and Michelle, both of which are pretty enough basics to have two-ofs. At the same time, I recall having staining issues with Michelle, so maybe it's not the greatest to have another one.

2 & 3 || Angled Liner Brush & Shader Brush || $18.00 (Non-Maven) / $14.40 (Maven) each

Brushes are always great items to get in boxes since they will always be used.

L - shader brush | R - angled liner brush

I have actually tried the angled liner brush before and I have found that it was very easy to work with. I haven't tried this particular shader brush, but I've tried ones from other brands and I'm sure this one will work just as well. Also - both brushes are very good quality.

4 || Blank Canvas Mattifying Eye Primer || $22.00 (Non-Maven) / $17.60 (Maven)

Julep has really been pushing this eye primer on me since I first got it last year. Seriously - I must have about 6 or 7 of these already from mystery boxes and as extra gifts that Julep sends you for having 3 add-ons with your Maven box. What's neat is that this eye primer can function as a concealer - IF the shade matches your skin tone. Unfortunately for me, the shade is way too dark and way too yellow for my skin tone. Nor can I use this as an eye primer because I am happily using an Inika cream eyeshadow that works perfectly well as an eye primer for me. Ugh, Julep just needs to give up already.

If you find that the Blank Canvas eye primer works for you or if you just want to try it out, write to me and I'll send one out to you free of charge!

5 || Lip Gloss in Splendid || $20.00 (Non-Maven) / $16.00 (Maven)

It's pretty expensive to purchase Julep's lip glosses individually, so I am always happy when I get shades I haven't yet tried in mystery boxes.

As seen on Julep.com

Splendid is one of two newest lip gloss shades that were released in October 2014.

As with all of the Julep lip glosses, Splendid has a strong vanilla fragrance and it also feels a bit sticky on the lips.

The shimmer can be seen pretty well in the tube and on the lips it's quite subtle.

The shade itself is a good transition between muted rose and nude.

6 || Gel Eye Glider in Blackest Black || $16.00 (Non-Maven) / $12.80 (Maven)

You see? I knew that the Blackest Black shade would eventually find its way to me!

Despite having about 4 shades in these eye gliders I have yet to try any of them. Why? Well, I currently use a black liquid eyeliner that works really well for me and the memories of Julep's super smudgy Kajal eye glider are a bit off-putting even though the eye gliders have wonderful reviews.

I'm sure I'll try this out eventually, but until then I'll be using other eyeliners. Have you guys had any luck with Julep's eye gliders?

----------------------------------------------------------------------------

|| Total Value: $178.00 (non-Maven) | $142.40 (Maven) ||

I have purchased every mystery box that Julep has offered last year, but for most part you have not seen their reviews because of a lack of excitement and interest on my part. So the fact that you are finally seeing a review of a mystery box means that this box was worth talking about.

It was roughly around July and August last year that Julep finally started taking into consideration that customers were really unhappy with receiving old stock in mystery boxes. I'm glad that Julep is slowly, but surely including newer products in their boxes - it makes the mystery boxes a lot more appealing to get.

What did you guys think of this box? Do you find that it's a step up from the 2013 Diamond Mystery Box or no? Let me know in the comments below!

You don't have to be a Julep Maven to purchase mystery boxes, but if you would like to sign up for the Maven monthly subscription and would like to use my referral link, you can do so here. Use code FROSTY to a get a winter-themed complimentary first box. Thank you kindly in advance!
